closing night at SIFF
Tonight the hard working people of the film festival that shows more films than any other film festival closed the fest for 2oo6.
They looked happy. And I met Beth (the program director)'s father. What a wonderful man! He told me about how his wife of 40 years had suddenly died only two months ago... and brought me to tears talking about how she'd quickly become an organ doner... How hard it must be to give strangers the most beautiful gift they'd ever receive: healthy body parts from a woman who'd spent most of her life with you, but was now gone.
The other plus was that I got to hang with Christina(see earlier blog for photo) and see several friends and acquaintances I hadn't seen in quite a while. I met a film maker with the first name of Britta. (I think that's how she spells it). I hope to be getting to know her and her work much better. She felt like a kindred spirit.
The only down side of the night was that someone stole the $41 cash I'd had in my wallet. Shame on me for not carrying my bag, I guess, but it still feels terrible to be stolen from.
